Dating safety: what not to share too early
Most early-dating risk comes from small details shared casually. A plain list of what to hold back, what pressure looks like, and when to use report and block.
Most early-dating risk does not come from dramatic situations. It comes from small pieces of information given away casually, early, to someone who has not yet earned them. The good news is that almost all of it is avoidable without becoming guarded or paranoid.
Hold these back until trust is genuinely established
- Your home address, or details that identify it — building name, street, the view from your window.
- Your employer’s name and location, especially combined with your schedule.
- Financial details of any kind: bank information, account numbers, income specifics, investment accounts.
- Passwords, verification codes, or one-time authentication codes — no legitimate person will ever need these.
- Identification documents, or photographs of them.
- Your children’s names, schools, or routines.
- Your full daily pattern — where you run, when you are away, when you are home alone.
Watch for pressure, not just questions
A normal person asks about your life. Someone with another motive pushes when you decline. Pressure to move off the platform quickly, to send money for an emergency, to invest in something, to send explicit images, or to explain why you will not answer a question — all of these are worth treating as answers in themselves.
Never send money, cryptocurrency, gift cards, banking information, or identification documents to someone you have met online. There is no version of this that ends well.
Your photos say more than you think
Images can carry location data, and backgrounds can identify a home, a workplace, or a regular route. Before sharing anything, look past the subject of the photo at everything else in the frame.
Keep it on the platform until you are comfortable
Moving to a personal number or another app hands over information and removes the reporting and blocking tools you would otherwise have. There is no rush. Someone genuinely interested will not mind waiting.
Use the tools without apology
VibeMatch members can privately report suspicious or abusive behaviour, and can block another member immediately to end unwanted contact. You do not need to justify either action to anyone, and you do not need to be certain before you use them.
VibeMatch does not conduct identity verification, background checks, criminal-record checks, or sex-offender-registry screening. Members may not be who they claim to be — please use your own judgement alongside the tools the platform provides.
